     John William Cordes was born on 25 November 1827 at London, England. He was baptized on 12 June 1831 at St. Matthew's, Bethnal Green, London, Middlesex, England.¹
      John William's birth and christening appear in the IGI; his parents are stated to be John (a smith) and Rebecca Cordes (Update Sept/09: found the register record (and image) on Ancestry). It is just possible that he could be the William who writes a letter to his Uncle Henry Cordes in 1844. See page 1 of the letter from J. William Cordes to his uncle Henry, 1844, page 2 of the letter, the envelope, and my transcription.

He married Annie Cress on 24 September 1904 at Port Dufferin, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada.¹ Arthur David Publicover married Margaret Elizabeth Jewers, daughter of George Jewers and Maria Jane Worthen, on 6 January 1918 at Necum Teuch, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada.² Arthur David Publicover died in 1971. He was buried at St. John's Anglican Church Cemetery, Necum Teuch, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada.

     Annie Cress was born circa 1886 at Bay River [Bear River?], Nova Scotia, Canada. She married Arthur David Publicover, son of John Solomon Publicover and Mary Alice Smith, on 24 September 1904 at Port Dufferin, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada.¹ Annie Cress died in 1910.
     
Research Note: The family name of this woman is quite a mystery. In the marriage registration entry on 24 September 1904 for Arthur David Publicover, his bride is Annie Berrigan, age 18, S, b. Bay River [Bear River?], residing in Smith's Cove, and d/o John (merchant) & Maria.
On the other hand, in the marriage certificate for Karl Berrigan to Grace Anita MacDonald on 30 March 1932, his parents are stated to be Arthur Publicover, b. Necum Teuch, and Annie Rawding,
To add to the confusion, Heather Waddingham's RootsWeb site has Arthur Publicover m(1) to Annie Cress, b. 1886 and d. 1910 These are the birth and death dates in the onlin transcription of the St. John's Anglican Church Cemetery, Necum Teuch; Arthur D. Publicover's dates are given there as 1878 - 1971.
My guess is that she was born Annie Cress and was adopted by a Berrigan family, as was Karl Howard Publicover-Berrigan, most likely.

     Margaret Elizabeth Jewers was born on 29 December 1870 at Mitchell Bay, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada. She married first William Edward Romkey on 31 July 1903 at Port Dufferin, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada.¹ Margaret Elizabeth Jewers married second Arthur David Publicover, son of John Solomon Publicover and Mary Alice Smith, on 6 January 1918 at Necum Teuch, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada.² Margaret Elizabeth Jewers died on 6 April 1957 at Halifax, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada, at age 86.³

     William Edward Romkey was born circa 1863. He married Margaret Elizabeth Jewers, daughter of George Jewers and Maria Jane Worthen, on 31 July 1903 at Port Dufferin, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada.¹ William Edward Romkey died before 1918.

     Hannah "Laura" Publicover was born on 21 February 1908 at Necum Teuch, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada. She married James Fleet, son of James Fleet and Olive Gertrude Pye. Hannah "Laura" Publicover died on 26 May 2005 at Halifax, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada, at age 97.

     James Fleet was born on 1 September 1893 at Fleet Settlement, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, Canada. He married Hannah "Laura" Publicover, daughter of Arthur David Publicover and Annie Cress.

     Olive Gertrude Pye was born on 20 November 1868 at Ecum Secum Narrows, Nova Scotia. She married James Fleet.
